One can get closer to a Roman Holiday in Malibu than you think. Just drive ten miles down Pacific Coast Highway and you will find yourself before an elaborate mansion known as the Getty Villa. This landmark, adorned with archaic motifs throughout, is modeled after ancient Greco-Roman architecture. Within its walls, visitors may behold Romanian antiquities, sculptures reminiscent of Greek Myth and my favorite, lavish gardens that you can’t help but want to picnic in—cheese and fruit plate included.

My friend and I, two history enthused millennials, had quite the journey travelling back in time a few millennia. We did so in our fabulous summer dresses, hers of the current gingham trend, I in a pinstriped off the shoulder number, another summer staple. I enjoyed traipsing about the grounds in this blue, white, and red frock that made me feel like the nautical version of Belle. The gorgeous puff sleeves and A-line nature of the dress make it both fun and flattering. You can wear something like this while on vacation this summer or during a daycation in your own town—there’s no limit to how many places you can wear it. With the dress, I paired my pearl encrusted Gucci Loafer heels, for some extra Italian detailing. For those final touches, I wore my gold square studs that had similar features the Roman and Mesopotamian jewelry on display in the museum, my vintage brown leather bag and curled my hair. While the rest of the look was effortless, I won’t lie: the hair took a while to style—but it was totally worth it!

Being the historical nut I am, I hope to visit some more museums or landmarks quite like this during the summer. Any places you have gone to, or want to go to that I should check out? Let me know in the comments down below. Stay tuned for some more outfit diaries this summer!

Keeping it Krischic,

Kristin Vartan
