Parisian Chic Beachwear

The T-shirt and shorts combo is practically a uniform at the beach for a California native—other than a swimsuit of course. Well, I have been a Californian my whole life, and I break the style rules all the time.

In terms of fashion, I don’t mind being as rebellious as a schoolgirl, modifying the constraints of her dress code to adapt it to her unique aesthetic. That’s right: the T-shirt and jeans look can be just as chic as it is casual!

In my case, finding a T-shirt with a bit of flair—literally—is essential. Ruffles are a summer fashion staple, and I love how this J.Crew striped shirt has a bell like ruffle on its sleeve. It’s amazing how much a vibrant color, pattern and unique structure can breathe new life into your everyday T-shirt. Since this top doesn’t have much shape to it, I tucked it into pair of navy chino shorts.

Chino shorts are an essential summer staple for any girl’s closet as they are structured, yet comfortable for the most casual of occasions, including sunbathing at the beach! As I tend to be more curvy in the shorts area, I have a deep appreciation for this pair’s length, which covers yet flatters my figure as I splash around in the water—or curl up in a cave at Malibu’s picturesque El Matador Beach!

Pairing this ensemble with a straw hat is a surefire formula for looking more like a Paris fashion girl from the ‘50s vacationing in the French Riviera. Bonus Parisian points if you part your hair down the middle into a low bun!

Hopefully, you’ve El Matador-ed this look (see what I did there?) as much as I adored my trip to the beach! Don’t be afraid to try out new trends while Oceanside this season. Live your retro summer daydream and live it to the fullest!
