The black whole of academia, consumed with law papers, journalistic video packages, grad school apps–even medieval manuscripts has officially swallowed me whole. While I enjoy all of these scholarly activities, fashion is quite a necessarily retreat to stay inspired.
My fashion therapy sessions have included curating my fall fashion closet. The key to a successful autumn wardrobe is going back to the basics. For me, the basics are referencing historical style.
The last few seasons, the fashion industry has travelled back to the Renaissance period, where women sported corsets–at least it should be considered a sport since it was more painful to wear those contraptions back in the day than work out!
Thankfully, us modern ladies know to follow the trend loosely, by opting for less tight versions of the accessory. The corset has reincarnated into belts and bottom halves of blouses. This top of mine prologues into Shakespearean chiffon and epilogues into a black silk corset. For an every day venue, I opted for some vintage Levis cuffed above the ankles and some beige slides.
What fall fashion trend are you excited to try?
Keeping it Krischic,
Kristin Vartan
