There’s a magic in city lights, especially in the city of angels where the stars hide away and the cityscape creates its own celestial illumination. The skyscrapers of Downtown Los Angeles or the lit up, eclectic lamps that LACMA is famous for when the sun goes down, become the perfect backdrop for a fun night out with friends.
Evening hours are also a fashionista’s favorite time to take advantage of mood lighting and create a conceptual aura with her outfit choices. This summer and fall, bell sleeves have become an iconic staple in a fashion girl’s closet, as can be seen in articles by Refinery29 and E! Online. The flowy sleeves are versatile for different genres of fashion girl. The bohemian, the romantic, and the historicist (the latter two which I fall under) can appreciate the beautiful silhouette of a bell-like blouse. And for those of us who see our lives as romanticized novels or motion pictures, we cannot resist wearing them under a tar-black sky because of the way city lights peak through their slightly transparent sleeves.
This willowy sleeved wonder from Zara is the epitome of the Southern Belle uniform with its matching black lined ruffles along the décolletage if one chooses to wear the top off-the-shoulder. I picked up on the black accents of the blouse with a black mini skirt with a tiny side-slit, a modern adaptation to the Southern Belle’s full, crinoline supported skirt—which would also be less seamless to walk around the lampposts in than a mini.
My over-the-knee brown riding boots are also a preferred alternative to a Southern Belle’s ankle boots for keeping warm in the slightly chilly fall air of LA. To top it all off, I’m wearing my calligraphy hoop earrings that have become a trademark of mine along with my London skyline necklace.
