Every time my parents suggest a trip to Napa, I can’t help but think… “wine” not?
This was my third trip to Napa since my 21st birthday last year (check out the blog posts here, here and here). Coming back to an old favorite brunch spot that is definitely my ArcheTYPE (it’s the name of the restaurant and the pun was right there) and the promise of a new winery to try made for the ultimate Sunday outing! It was a treat to be back in wine country.
No wine tasting is complete without an elegant ensemble! One hundred degree weather and a lot of walking requires a balance of practicality and personality in winery-wear. To keep cool, I wore a short sleeve navy crop top with horizontal cutouts in the back. The heat pushed me toward wearing a skirt, but I made sure it was one long enough so I wouldn’t have to keep worrying about it every time I went up the stairs or if the wind picked up! This white pencil skirt of line paired well with the top like a plate a cheese complements wine.
To bring together these color blocked pieces, I tied a patterned silk scarf around my neck and wore navy strapped suede sandals. These are low heeled of course, because again, you do a lot of walking in Napa Valley! For whatever reason, I opt for a European look when in Napa so I pulled my hair in a low pony tail and wore a straw hat over, topping it off with a Louis Vuitton bag and some Prada sunglasses!
With my Napa uniform on, it was time to head to Berginer Winery! This 18th century property is truly Victorian with its multi-faceted roof, indoor woodwork, and gothic revival stained glass windows. These characteristics in itself were enough to draw me in. The wine didn’t disappoint either. My family and I tried three wines: Beringer’s Merlot, Chardonnay and Nightingale dessert wine which tasted like spiced nectar. I personally am not the biggest white wine girl unless the wine is Pinto Grigio or Prosecco, so by default I already was partial to the merlot. The dessert wine was also delicious! I cannot wait to try more wine when I get back–but for now, I can tame the cravings with the wine we brought home with us!
