Vintage and Vele: The Chic, Ethical Bag You Need Right Now

There is a common misconception that that fashionistas are women obsessed with dressing well for the mere goal of looking good. But fashion is more than the elevation of aesthetic: it can be used as a force for positive change.

This is the vision of Vele, a travel accessories brand that marries chic with ethical. Vele accessories like their sleek black leather crossbody and wallet are made from cow hides already being farmed for their meat. The brand is sustainable, but even closer to my heart: passionate about the empowerment and human rights of women–from the products’ creation, to purchase, to use. Vele’s artisians located in Ubrique, Spain are paid fair living wages for their craftsmanship and work in safe environments. Then 10 percent of money made from each purchase is donated to “Not for Sale,” a non-profit that protects men and women internationally from human-trafficking. And for those that purchase the bag, sewn inside are the words “You Are Worthy,” so the woman carrying the bag knows every day that she is special and “wanted.” I cannot be prouder to be a Vele Muse!

The Vele accessories are meant for the girl on-the-go, and heaven knows I am a vagabond–and a vintage one at that! I thought it would be fitting to wear my Vele crossbody in the 1940s cinematic fashion, think Cassablanca! Just like good ‘ol Humphrey Bogart, I am sporting a trench coat, but mine is in a more feminnie, sleeveless dress form from Zara. I belted it at the waist to accentuate my figure–since the trench is a little boxy. Plus the belt pairs well with the black leather of the purse! I love the minimalistic Spanish look of the bag, and thought some Spanish-looking open-toe heels would add more spice to the ensemble! I adore how these ones from Zara are a see-through mesh with fun polka-dots! And of course, no vintage vagabond look is complete without a pair of mysterious oversized glasses, like the prada ones I’m sporting in these photos. I added some red lips and pulled my hair into a low bun for that extra layer of drama. Needless to say, this Vele muse is ready to travel in style!
