You know how there’s that saying, “all roads lead to Rome?” Well in my case, all blogging boulevards lead me back to discussing London. This time, it’s not just me reminiscing, okay? I am here to tell you that Dover Street Market, which originated on Dover Street in London’s Mayfair neighborhood, has officially found a home in the Arts District in Los Angeles!

During my London study abroad days, I had the privilege of attending the OG Dover Street Market opening and find it full circle to be perusing through the newest location in my Downtown Los Angeles backyard.

For those of you who do not know what Dover Street Market is, it’s a right of passage for Los Angeles as an official city of fashion, according to Fashionista. The retailer love-child of Comme des Garçons founder Rei Kawukubo and Comme des Garçons CEO Adrian Joffe, is a series of gigantic style spaces in major cities London, New York, Singapore, Beijing and now Los Angeles according to Dover Street Market, that feature the latest collections of luxury clothing and jewelry, according to Fashionista.

I agree with Vogue’s Dirk Standen that DSM is a prime example that brick and mortar stores are not dead, but have to evolve. DSM is not just a place to purchase—it’s a fashion museum to peruse. Each retailer has curated their section of DSM according to their brand identity. For Gucci, it’s layers of Middle Eastern rugs that pattern play with floral wallpaper and funky pieces. For Maison Margiela, it’s all about a clean white space that showcases their chic staples for everyday wear.

The 30,000 square foot Los Angeles location, according is so extensive and eclectic that one can’t help but be artistically inspired—or broke by the end of the trip. And if you grow tired in between looking at collections, there’s even an on-site bakery with coffee, pastries and brunch options. I spent two hours there, walking around in my pepper tweed jacket lines with black accordian fringe. And yes I was wearing some comfy Levi’s and deceptively easy-to-walk in opened toe heels from Zara, but I still needed to rest in between!

I highly recommend looking through the whole entire selection, but here are some of my favorite retail displays:

  • Gucci
  • Simone Rocha
  • Commes de Garcons Noir Kei Ninomiya
  • Pat Mcgrath
  • Maison Margiela
  • Sacai

So, my fellow LA-based chicsters, go forth to the Dover Street Market, shop, be inspired and merry. But do not fret, because this is no permanent exhibition. It’s here to stay, and the collections will change season by season!

Keeping it Krischic,

Kristin Vartan
