Last weekend, I ventured through what I would call a beauty funhouse for makeup-lovers: BeautyCon Pop! Beautycon Pop is a ‘pop-up’ experience where different cosmetic brands have taken over individual rooms and decorated according to their aesthetic preferences: Makeup brand, Limecrime opted for a neon museum of bright pinks and greens with “The Birth of Venus hanging over a luxurious pink chaise—and a large neon yellow clam inspired by the painting to an Instagrammer’s delight. Laneige exhibited jet-set dreams with a first-class ticket photo-op complete with champagne! Mamonde, a Korean beauty brand put on an Alice-in-Wonderland evoking rose garden that made me feel like the storybook heroine herself, so I half expected the botanicals to come alive and sing to me!
The entire exhibit was a nice escape from everyday life, and it reminded what a delightful universe cosmetics create for one who dabbles in its art. While I am one to opt for a fashion blog post over one about makeup, let this be the genesis of me talking to you chicsters about my beauty philosophy:
It’s probably no surprise that Audrey Hepburn is my style icon. But she is also my role model when it comes to beauty. It definitely helps that we have a similar face shape—the high cheek bones with a strong jawline and thick eyebrows. These features are better accentuated with a thin black liner along the almond-shaped eyes we share, and a subtle wing to add a classic touch. Audrey is also known to adorn her lips with a rosy pink lipstick that she probably also swipes across her cheeks in the 1950s style. I normally gravitate toward those muted colors but am also a fan of a bright lipstick for my daily makeup routine!
We may be discussing beauty in this blog post, but would it be a ‘krischic’ entry without an allusion to my outfit? I truly feel like if Kate Spade and Ted Baker did a Christmas season campaign together, it would feature my look. Seriously. The focal point of this ensemble is definitely my grey cashmere Ted Baker cape that I bought while abroad in London three years ago. Under it is a bouquet inspired button-up top from H&M in the UK. It’s only fair that I’m wearing international purchased goods while posing in Laneige’s aviation-themed room—champagne in hand of course!
The lavender jean skirt is a vintage find—and as far as I am concerned ties the whole look together with its pastel softness. Who says you have to wear fall colors anymore, when it is still quite warm in LA! And the final touches are in the bows—on my Kate Spade loafers and an antique gold vintage bow hair clip, adorned with a giant pearl! I could not feel more girly and Marvelous Mrs. Maisel-esque with season 2 officially out on Amazon Prime Video (not an ad I swear, I just love Amazon Prime Video)!
What is your go-to makeup trend?
Keeping it Krischic,
Kristin Vartan
