The Clothing Cafe

It’s only natural that someone who loves coffee as much as I do would wear an espresso-colored ensemble. Brown is a cheery alternative to black for fall and winter muted mode (fashion in French).

The runway this past fall fashion week was all cocoa everything. Case in point: Burberry’s Spring 2019 Ready-to-Wear show. Mr. Tisci, the new Creative Director of Burberry, did an exquisite job bringing some elegant edge to the brand that is characteristic of tan trench coats. He managed to repurpose traditionally muted colors by pairing an assortment of browns and tans in different shades and textures to create looks of depth and interest to the non-faint of fashion heart (look 8, look 20, look 27, look 32, look 38 are my absolute favorites).

While I am no Mr. Tisci, I know a thing or two about pairing textures and colors to create a chic outfit. For this one in particular, I wanted my dark espresso suede skirt of a medium length to look like the bottom half of a dress. To do this, I paired a tight v-neck of a slightly darker coffee color to make the two pieces appear as one.

I added an almond-iced latte hued belt with with a silver chain-mail body to add some interest to the monochromatic bottom.  My shoes were more of  a mocha espresso leather–with creative cut-outs to give my entire look more of an edge. Here’s to hoping Mr. Tisci would be proud!

But of course I wouldn’t dedicate an ode to this new age of Burberry without carrying my travel size Burberry crossbody with me! And by no means was this post sponsored by the brand; I just appreciate the direction it’s going in!
