Everyone has their ‘power’ color: a hue that when you wear it, it makes you feel as if you can take on the world fearlessly.
For me, red is that color: it’s powerful, it’s sultry, it’s classic (I’ve written a previous ode to red before). So as you can imagine, stepping inside Giorgio Armani’s redbox pop-up in West Hollywood was a true R&R (red and relaxation) experience–because it was all red everything!
One of my good friends Tyrah and I are always down for a quality pop-up and the Armani Redbox was not acception. What I loved most about it was that how well they encapsulated the Old Hollywood spirit in an area that is so rich in cinematic history! Not sure if this was intentional double entendre, but when I think of the word redbox, I do think of movies, since redbox is a rental DVD company that used to be outside of drug stores while I was growing up (not sure if they are still a thing since streaming services took over). And stepping inside Armani’s redbox was like a beauty time capsule: They had the retro mirrors with a ring of lightbulbs that no doubt starlets like Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly would be proud of and red countertops where customers can sample Armani lipsticks, foundation and more while sipping on a flute of champagne.
The store in classic film fashion, even had a red carpet that went down the middle of the room and glossier, cleaner versions of Walk of Fame stars. The real star of this carpet is the golden gorilla along that carpet, which mirror the one in Giorgio Armani the man’s statue in his house named Uri, according to Harper’s Baazar.
The pop-up gave me an excuse to also wear my red pants–which I have dubbed my ‘pants on fire.’ In the spirit of the pop-up, I paired the trousers with my Gucci belt of the same color, to sort of match the look of the Giorgi Armani lipstick bottle: rouge all around with a gold Giorgi Armani buckle in the middle. Because pink is also one of my ‘power’ colors, I decided to go for a Audrey Hepburn-esque, pink cashmere sweater on top. It brings out the pink accent in my strapped black heels.
