The childhood joy I gained from looking through those glossy pages translated to starting my media brand. Keeping it Krischic. This is the fashion destination for the forward thinker with a vintage soul that you are currently experiencing. It’s a self-fulfilling prophecy that almost two decades later, I would rise to the #VogueChallenge. The #VogueChallenge is a social media trend where anyone can make the editorial decision to become a Vogue cover star.

The “fashion bible” has a diverse congregation around the world, so I’m sure my desire to be a cover girl is me preaching to the choir. There’s an undeniable reason that this TikTok and Instagram trend has resonated with a colossal count of creators: publishing your own cover is the democratization of an aspirational publication.

Vogue has always been the standard of fashion, of what’s considered high fashion, art and culture. The pioneer of this challenge, Salma Noor rooted the challenge in the “Black Lives Matter” movement, so credit must be given where credit is due. I’m thankful that she launched a social media movement that resonated with all of us: the desire to be recognized by the industry standard—and perhaps even the right to be.
