Red and pink have traditionally been synonymous with the month of love, but the color combo definitely had some major moments this summer and are continuing to be in spotlight this fall. The color scheme has graced the July issue of Vogue Italia and even the red carpet of Venice Film Festival through stylish starlets like Claire Foy, Naomi Watts and Dakota Johnson. My inner girly girl is following in suit.
Speaking of suits (pen completely intended) I decided to go berry bold in the form of a power suit. The look took inspiration from all the aforementioned looks, but especially drew from Kaia Gerber’s Vogue Italia cover. I never like to copy a look from head-to-toe, because there is a definite difference between inspiration and imitation. Personal style separates the two. I made the look my own for opting for less muted shades of red and pink than Kaia’s ensemble, but tried to keep the color volume down by wearing a form-fitting white tank under the Karl Lagerfeld blazer. Similarly to Kaia, I went for wide-leg trousers that cinches at the waist. Mine are from Mango, the best place for bottoms as far as I’m concerned!
The real key to personalizing this outfit was through accessories! My vintage soul couldn’t quit, even for this look! I added an antique cameo brooch just to salute my fondness for the Victorian period. And I may have gone slight modern Marie Antoinette with floral embroidered shoes from Steve Madden. If the monarch was an American socialite living in the modern age, I could definitely see her wearing these!
